TRip Itinerary

Day 1:

We'll pick you up from your hotel in Beijing at 6:30 to catch the bullet train at 7:22 a.m. to Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia. Upon arrival at 10:09 a.m., your English-speaking guide and driver will greet you at the Hohhot train station.

Drive about 1.5 hours to the Xilamuren Grassland, also known as Zhaohe. Its name means “yellow water” in Mongolian. Explore rolling grassland near Hohhot and visit the riverside Buddhist temple built in 1769 during the Qing dynasty. Its main hall, gateway, and side buildings preserve elements of the original complex.

During the Nadam Fair held in each summer, the whole grassland is throbbing with excitement and full of activities. Tourists can experience a great many activities, such as living in a yurt, a campfire party, singing and dancing, watching camel racing, horse racing, and wrestling. You can even take part in some of the competitions you are interested in; perhaps a big surprise is waiting for you!

At Xilamuren, take part in traditional Mongolian activities such as archery, wrestling, horseback riding, and arts and crafts. Enjoy a Mongolian dance performance in the evening and spend the night in a traditional ger tent.

Day 2

Watch sunrise over the grassland, then continue to Xiangshawan. Explore a desert landscape known for its broad dunes and resonant sand, with views stretching across the surrounding terrain.

At Xiangshawan you'll get to try your hand at camel riding, while also admiring the magnificent desert view. In the late afternoon, you'll be taken to the train station to catch a train back at 8:00 p.m. or 8:55 p.m. to Beijing.

We'll send a driver to meet you at Beijing train station to transfer you to your hotel in Beijing.

TAILOR-MADE TRAVEL

What to refine before booking

Protect the travel days

Review the full hotel-to-hotel transfer for every intercity leg. Avoid relying on a flight or train arriving early enough for a tightly timed major attraction unless the final schedule supports it.

Choose a comfortable pace

Confirm stairs, slopes and time on foot. Ask which optional visits can be shortened or removed, and where an additional night would make the biggest difference.

Make inclusions explicit

Request the actual hotel and room choices, guide language, vehicle arrangements, admission coverage, meals and any activity-specific support in the written quotation.

Compare another approach

For a more spacious route, explore the original journey briefs in our national and regional collections. These show overnight allocations, transfer days and the tradeoffs behind each route.
