Walking level & suitability

A challenging two-day combination. The Jiankou section has steep, uneven terrain and requires suitable conditions.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1 · Gubeikou, Jinshanling and Jiankou

Travel to Gubeikou: Leave Beijing for the old Wall and begin the first ridge walk. Into Jinshanling: Continue toward the watchtowers and the mix of restored and unrestored masonry. Meal and transfer: Take a meal break, then drive toward Jiankou. Jiankou camp: Reach the approved overnight site, settle the equipment and enjoy the evening view.

Day 2 · Jiankou to Mutianyu

Sunrise: Wake to the early mountain light and eat breakfast. Rugged ridge: Walk a safe Jiankou route toward Mutianyu, where the Wall gradually becomes more developed. Mutianyu finish: Explore the final towers and descend by the arranged method; the slide is optional when operating. Return: Meet the driver for Beijing after the hike.

Plan the practical details

Confirm the permitted overnight location, tents, sleeping bags, pads, meals, toilet arrangements and weather alternative in your written proposal. The actual sleeping location may be a designated area near the Wall; do not infer permission to camp anywhere from a route photograph.

Hike light

Arrange storage for your main luggage with the route team. Carry a small daypack with water, suitable layers and personal essentials. Confirm whether bags travel by vehicle between overnight stops.
